ACTIVITES REPORT: Learning in English on Cambridge English and British Council
First things first, I just wanna say British Council is one of the best learning alternatives to study English (especially when you want to learn about British English). Its UI are friendly even for novice user or for people who're not tech savy. It also has a features that allowed user to know at what level are their English Proficiency.
After knowing that my English skill was just around B1 (which is classfied as Intermediate), I was a bit worried. The problem is, the listening activities that I must take was on B2 and C1 which was beyond my level.
However, I'll do it anyway (because sometime, doing things that beyond my capabilties can be very challenging).
Suprisingly, the test went easier and smoother than I expected. I could catch up with many words and translated it immediately. I thought it's because I take the very first choice of B2, so I tried to do the very last choice of C1. It turned out the same way as before.
I don't know if it's because my listening is much better than I thought or it's just because the speakers only used common terms in their conversation (which eventually I still could understand).
Even so, there are a bit of words that hard to catch up or heard. I think it's because the speakers talks in British accent (which is kinda hard to understand at first, even for the people who use English as their first languange).
Then, I go to Cambridge English. This one offers a learning alternative to study American English (the way common English).
This time, I have to finish writing activties. There is no need to take spesicific level this time, I could take any level as long as it contain about writing. So I started it at the lowest level.
The instruction that I got, commanded me to write a simple birthday party invitation. That was so easy, of course. But, I need four minutes to just finished it.
I thought I will just got a half-assed review like the other English writing review sites, but apparently not. The site has feature to identify which words are out of context or misplaced, then provide the best words equivalents to replaced them. This feature is quite unique because it is as if we are studying with a private tutor who will not only correct us when we write down the wrong words, but also give us the right examples.
Overall, both sites are great in their own ways. Beside making study English looks more easier, it also make study English seems fun.
